It is no accident that the French chose Ba Na as the place to build a sanatorium in 1901. Marin Debay, an infantry captain, loved the atmosphere and called Ba Na the holiday kingdom of central Vietnam.
The Ba Na Resort is 1,487m above sea level and the average temperature in the summer is around 18 degrees Celsius. However, to get there - and it is on top of a mountain - one must travel along 15km of steep, windy road. Standing on the mountain peak and looking down is a great experience with a feeling like everything is spreading out for kilometer after kilometer. There are the vast Hoa Vang plains and the heaving hills in Hoa Cuong and Hoa Trung and one can also see the Son Tra peninsula and Cape Cua Kham far off in the distance. On days when the sky is clear on can see Da Nang - the whole city - and the gulf of Vung Thung with an arch-shape line spreading from Hai Van Pass foot to Son Tra peninsula, My Khe beach, the Five Marble Mountains, the winding Thu Bon River watering thriving rice fields, and Cu Lao Cham amidst deep blue waves.
Besides the sea and the beautiful sites, Ba Na is an area with more than 256 fauna species, including the rare Asian black bear, Pheinardia ocellata, and 543 flora species. Ba Na was made a nature reserve site in 1986.
Obtaining moisture from the sea, Ba Na is like a colorful spring garden with numerous flowers specific to the sub-temperate climate such as hortensia. Here visitors can find wild hortensia and orchids. The unspoiled beauty of wild flowers is fascinating.
Ba Na is also a sacred area. Even though you are exhausted after the long drive your exhaustion will soon disappear when you step your foot on the Ba Na mountain peak. There, you'll find the Linh Ung Pagoda with its exquisite architectural design.

In the recent years, Da Nang managers decided to restore French-style estates, a Buddhist cultural site, wine cellars and a number of villas, hotels, bars, tennis courts, badminton courts, etc. Efforts are also made to host campfires, propagate mountain specialties and help visitors partake in picnics to discover nature. From Vong Nguyet hill, visitors are brought to a central area by a modern cable car system consisted of 16 units that can transport 320 people an hour.
Each year, Ba Na welcomes tens of thousands of local and foreign visitors. After four years of operation, Ba Na resort has left an unforgettable impression on visitors. It is hoped that the Ba Na-Suoi Mo Resort will attract more foreign visitors in the coming months now that the government approved Da Nang as Vietnam's third international gateway, behind Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with direct flights to many countries.
