An inevitable trend
In Tuy Hoa city, the Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities (AMC) in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Institute (FES) of Germany has recently organized a workshop to assess the ability of Vietnamese urban areas in implementing COP26 commitments on green urban development and low-carbon cities. Representatives of leaders and urban managers in localities of the province knows that green urban development is an inevitable trend and Phu Yen can not be out of this trend. However, to implement this, localities need a synchronous solution including investment in technical infrastructure and raising the awareness of urban citizens, especially attracting finance to green housing and green infrastructure...
Mr Nguyen Cong Thanh, Vice Chairman of Tuy Hoa city People's Committee lets known: within the roadmap to grade-I city by 2025, Tuy Hoa city aims to turn the city into a climate-adaptive city, a green, clean, beautiful, environmentally friendly and sustainable development. According to the plan, Tuy Hoa city will move a number of production facilities with risks of environmental impacts out of the inner city; investing in parks and lakes to improve the landscape and urban environment, creating a peaceful and civilized living environment; supplementing the system of green trees on traffic routes and residential areas; improving drainage systems to meet requirements in the context of climate change. The city will also soon complete and put into use a domestic waste treatment plant with advanced technology; completing the inter-lake system to ensure the supply of surface water, reduce heat in the hot season and drain water in the city; investing in sludge treatment lines to ensure environmental sanitation. Simultaneously, the locality will increase the rate of domestic waste collection, thoroughly handle garbage collection points causing environmental pollution in the locality; raising community awareness in urban environmental sanitation…
The need of cooperation
According to Mr Nguyen Cong Thanh, the city has now deployed automatic lighting system via the Smart Urban Operation Center of Tuy Hoa city, contributing to saving energy. The tram system in the inner city comes into operation to serve sightseeing tours for tourists, helping to reduce carbon emissions from gasoline. Hundreds of new trees have been planted on the roads in the inner city under the Project of planting 2 million trees in Tuy Hoa city in the period of 2021-2025… Among the people, movements of protecting environment have also been actively implemented through models such as the project of receiving recyclables in ward 9 or the Blue Sea Club in Binh Kien commune… These activities greatly contribute to raising people's awareness of urban environmental protection.
In the towns of Dong Hoa and Song Cau, parks, trees, public spaces and the system of rivers and lakes are always invested in construction and renovation in the process of expanding urban planning. According to Mr Vo Ngoc Thach, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Cau town, the locality is actively promoting the implementation of the Directive No. 15 of the town Party Standing Committee on mobilizing the whole people to make Song Cau become a bright - green – clean - pretty town.. Along with that, Song Cau town has launched a special emulation movement to build the town into a city by 2025. In the planning and infrastructure, Song Cau focuses on developing urban greenery, lakes, public spaces to create landscapes and improve the ecological environment in association with effective implementation of the Action Program of the provincial Party Committee on strengthening environmental protection, striving for Phu Yen to become a green, clean, beautiful and environmentally friendly destination by 2025…
