On November 27, 2023, the Management Board of Phat Lon Pagoda coordinated with the Management Board of Cam Mountain Tourist Area and Tinh Bien Town People's Committee to organize a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of building the Maitreya Buddha Statue on Cam Mountain and the 10th anniversary of achieving the Asian record for "The largest Maitreya Buddha Statue on a mountain top in Asia" (March 02, 2013 - November 27, 2023).
Accordingly, the project of The Maitreya Buddha statue on Cam Mountain was started in April 2004, thanks to the socialization by the Management Board of Phat Lon Pagoda to carry out the construction work on a 2.2 hectare campus. The project is surrounded by mountains and forests and in front of Thuy Liem Lake.
A large number of former leaders, leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, Tinh Bien Town Party Committee and a large number of people came to the celebration. In particular, there was also the presence of sculptor Thuy Lam, who has made an important contribution to creating the current shape of the Maitreya Buddha statue.
In the respectful incense sticks, the delegates, guests and many people all admired in their sincere hearts, praying that Maitreya would bless the country and its people with peace and joy.
Currently, the interior of the statue has additional religious works, contributing to creating beautiful scenery and meeting the spiritual needs of tourists.
After the incense burning ceremony, delegates discussed and reaffirmed the difficult process of building the statue from the early days. At the same time, they expressed gratitude to benefactors, the numerous people and tourists who have contributed to the project achieving its current status.
Maitreya Buddha statue on Cam Mountain is 33.6m high, total weight of 1,700 tons, the statue's outer shell alone weighs 600 tons. The project is a symbol of the religious culture and spiritual tourism activities of An Giang province, attracting a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to visit and worship.
In the future, the project will continue to be completed with landscapes, streams and large spaces, contributing to the majestic beauty of Bodhisattva Maitreya's throne, becoming a tourist highlight on majestic and charming Thien Cam Son peak./.
