(TITC) - On 26 September 2024, in Xingyi City, Guizhou Province, China, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc led the Vietnamese delegation to attend International Conference of Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports (MTOS) organized by the International Mountain Tourism Alliance (IMTA).
It is a forum for representatives from international organizations, embassies, travel departments and tourism enterprises in relevant countries, experts and scholars will gather to deeply explore and share innovative development paths for high-quality and sustainable mountain tourism in the new era, empowering mountain tourism with new quality productive forces.
Huge potential of developing Vietnam's mountainous tourism
Sharing experiences in developing mountainous tourism in Vietnam at the conference, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc emphasized that Vietnam has diverse terrain, overlapping mountains associated with attractive natural landscapes, rivers, streams, primeval forests, and majestic cave systems. They are favorable conditions for developing mountain tourism and outdoor activities.
Mountain tourism products in Vietnam are mainly exploited in the midland and mountainous areas of the North (the area with the Vietnam - China border, concentrating the high mountain peaks of Vietnam).
Adventure sports tours are (conquering Fansipan peak - the roof of Indochina at 3,143m high; Ky Quan San peak - Bach Moc Luong Tu (Lao Cai - Lai Chau) at 3,046m high; Tay Con Linh peak (Ha Giang) at 2,431m high; Gia Lan peak (Ha Giang) at 1,458m high). Mountain climbing/trekking & hiking walking tours to explore high mountain peaks; explore caves and primeval forests at Ba Be National Park (Bac Kan), Hoang Lien Son National Park (Lao Cai)...

Red River Delta and Northeastern coastal region of Vietnam with mountainous terrain interspersed with plains or valleys, mountainous areas, coastal areas, Trang An Landscapecomplex, the world natural heritage Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago. The region is very attractive to tourists.
North Central Vietnam region is home of World’s Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. This park exists caves with outstanding values: the highest and widest cave entrance, the most beautiful sand and rock beach, the most beautiful underground river, the most beautiful underground lake, the most magical and magnificent stalactites, the widest and most beautiful dry cave, the longest water cave.
Son Doong Cave (belong to this park) is considered by British Vietnam Caving Expedition Team to be the largest cave in the world. They also discovered a karst sinkhole more than 255 m deep, possibly the deepest in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam - Attractive destination for international tourists
Besides, Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc also informed about the development of Vietnam tourism.
In recent years, Vietnam has been considered an attractive destination with many favorable conditions: convenient access to destinations, open visa policies, and diverse tourism products.
Air connectivity between Vietnam and China and the world has been set up and restored. Currently, there are direct flights from Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam to many cities in China such as: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Chongqing, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. Many airlines also operate connecting flights between Vietnam and several transit points, making it convenient for tourists from China to Vietnam.
VNAT’s Vice Chairman informed, China has been an important source market of Vietnam for many consecutive years. Vietnam attracted 5.8 million Chinese visitor arrivals to Vietnam in 2019 (accounting for about 30% of the total number of international visitor arrivals to Vietnam, top 1), and 1.7 million in 2023. In first 8 months of 2024, 2.4 million Chinese visitor arrivals come to Vietnam (top 2), recovering more than 75% compared to the same period in 2019.
Within the framework of a working trip to attend MTOS, on 25 September, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc had a meeting with the authorities and tourism management agencies of Guizhou to discuss the prospects of tourism cooperation and enhance tourist exchange between the two sides.
