(TITC) - Con Chim belongs to Phuoc Son Commune - Tuy Phuoc District, Binh Dinh Province, is an "oasis" nestled between green space - blue water, blue sky and green mangrove forest with 3 floating islets including Con Chim, Con Trang and Con Gia.
Con Chim (or Bird Islet) ecological area is 480 hectares wide, occupying nearly 1/10 of the area of Thi Nai lagoon - the largest saltwater lagoon in the Central region of Vietnam.
With the green mangrove forests, people often regard this place as the "green bird's nest", the "green oasis" of the land of Binh Dinh. Con Chim is an area affected by the Kon and Ha Thanh river systems that should have a large distribution of mangroves and seagrass beds, creating habitats, feeding areas, breeding grounds and larva nurseries for many valuable aquatic species. There are 25 species of mangroves recorded, of which 18 species are mainly forest-producing, and 7 species of trees are involved and 5 species of seagrass (50 ha area) in Con Chim.

With a special ecosystem and climate, the area is the place where thousands of birds and storks live and shelter in harmony with humans. People in Con Chim live a friendly life, protect and defend mangrove forests, ban hunting and exterminating wild birds. Therefore, every year various kinds of birds come back to give birth, and there are many strange species, aquatic species multiply rapidly. This area has about 100 households with 1,000 people, working in fishing and aquaculture. Families are contracted to protect forests and preserve ecosystems for prawns and fish to thrive.

According to the Binh Dinh Agricultural Extension Center, from 2006 till now, the authorities and the people of Con Chim area have planted nearly 50 hectares of mangrove forest, with the following varieties: mangrove, Sonneratia alba, Avicennia marina… Thereby, making an important contribution to climate regulation, constraining storms, floods, high tides, constraining saltwater intrusion and protecting groundwater, against waves and winds.
In recent years, many domestic and international visitors have come here to experience and enjoy the unspoiled natural space in Con Chim.
