(TITC)- Nam Dam Village belongs to Quan Ba commune, 8km from Tam Son townlet, Quan Ba District, Ha Giang Province. The village is home to Dao ethnic people with 48 households and 233 villagers.
Thanks to convenient location and unique cultural value of Dao ethnic people, Nam Dam Village has been chosen to pilot model of combining cultural tourism villages with new rural development of Quan Ba District in 2012. This policy was supported by local people and relevant stakeholders.
Along with the state investment, the villagers have contributed their money and work in the community-based tourism development by improving their houses, equipping facilities to serve tourists, building bathrooms and toilets, preserving traditional culture, enhancing awareness of environment protection. As the result, a number of international and domestic tourists has come to the village, which encourages the villagers to participate in community-based tourism activites.
Mr. Ly Quoc Chanh – one of 10 households in Nam Dam Village joining in homestay services said, along with 60 million VND grant from the province, he invested in house upgrading, toilet building, nessesary facilities like bed, cabinet, mostique-net, garden rebuilding to serve tourists. In addition, his family has been trained on tourism skills.
Mr. Ly Ta Dan, Nam Dam village’s leader said: combining cultural tourism villages with new rural development at Nam Dam Village has changed the outlook and action of villagers, raised aware of preserving traditional culture, especially house architecture, belief, custom, traditional costumes.
Sharing the same opinion, Mrs. Dang Thi Huong, Chairwoman of Quan Ba Communce People’s Committee affirms that Nam Dam Village has achieved 60% common criteria of cultural tourism villages combining with new rural development. Quan Ba Commune expects to welcome 2,000 tourists in 2015, including 1,000 tourists staying overnight and receive 800 million VND income, become one of the tourist attractions on the tour to Dong Van Plateau. In 2012, the commune will encourage the last 20 households in Nam Dam Village to move cattle cages aways from home, develop 2 households to serve herb bathing, 3 households to produce traditional products such as embroidery and knitting, 5 households to offer tourist experience on local daily activities, maintain operation of “Green Motherland” club from 10-13 members to perform. In 2013, 10 local chefs, 10 receptionists, 5 tour guides will be trained; new cultural village gates will be repaired and built; signpost system and internet will be installed; linking Nam Dam with inter-province tour and Dong Van Plateau will be maintained.
With the detemination and specific solutions of Quan Ba District, Nam Dam Village would be a highlight in building a model of combining cultural tourism villages with new rural development in Ha Giang Province.
