(TITC) - On 28th February, in Ha Noi, the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Representative Office in Korea (KVNAT) and the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) took place in the aim of boosting e-payment, promoting tourism between Vietnam and Korea.

Attending the event were Mr. Doan Van Viet, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST); Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT); Mr. Lee Chang Kun, Vietnam tourism ambassador in Korea; Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of NAPAS; Mr. Nguyen Dang Hung, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of NAPAS; Mr. Cha Se Young, CEO of Kondor Corporation; leaders of departments and units of VNAT, NAPAS, Vietnam Tourism Promotion Representative Office in Korea.
Accordingly, the both sides will join hands to encourage the implementation of e-payment on mobile applications of VNAT, supporting tourism activities, allowing visitors of the two countries to purchase goods and services at the commercial network of member banks of NAPAS in Vietnam and KVNAT's partner units in Korea. At the same time, exchange information to develop mobile applications of VNAT to meet the best interests of tourists of the two countries when making transactions abroad.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Doan Van Viet stated, the tourism industry has always been the strongest exchange between the two countries, serving as a bridge between Vietnam – RoK diplomatic relations over recent times.
By far, Korea has been one of the two Vietnam’s largest tourist source markets, while Vietnam is the RoK’s 10th largest tourist source market, MOCST’s Deputy Minister Doan Van Viet stressed. Post the Covid-19, Governments and businesses of both sides are actively implementing cooperation activities to revive the tourism industry. In December 2022, VNAT and KTO signed the MOU period 2023-2024 aims to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation and tourist exchange. NAPAS also proceeded to cooperate with Korean financial institutions to promote digital payment services between the two countries.

MOCST’s Deputy Minister Doan Van Viet hopes that the signing of the MoU will create favourable conditions for visitors of both countries to travel to each other’s destinations, and contribute to the implementation of Vietnam’s non-cash payment development plan in 2021 - 2025 period.
Mr. Lee Chang Kun, Vietnamese Tourism Ambassador to the RoK stressed the necessity of promoting tourism post the Covid-19. By raising the awareness of the e-payment system as the trend of the times, Mr. Lee Chang Kun shared that developing non-cash payments would help Vietnam make a difference with other countries, and attract more international visitors in the future.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of NAPAS Nguyen Quang Hung said, non-cash payment has been developing blissfully in Vietnam in recent years. At the main tourism hubs such as Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, people and visitors have gradually become accustomed to using e-payment means such as bank cards, mobile banking (e-banking), wire transfer, etc. The cooperation between NAPAS and KVNAT will promote the expansion of the cashless payment ecosystem, support Vietnamese and Korean people to have a comfortable experience when travelling or going on a business trip, reducing the time of foreign currency conversion, contributing to enhancing the exchange of visitors between the two countries, recovering and developing the tourism industry of Vietnam - Korea.
