(TITC) - Located in the South-Central Coastal Region, Bau Truc Ceramic Village is an attractive tourist destination with handicraft products bearing the Cham culture identity.
Bau Truc ceramic village belongs to Phuoc Dan Town, Ninh Phuoc District, Ninh Thuan Province, and is about 10 km south of Phan Rang - Thap Cham City, right on the National Highway 1A.
Through ups and downs in history, there were times that Bau Truc ceramic products had been "just for storage", but in recent years, Bau Truc ceramic products has been commodity ordered by many customers.
Bau Truc ceramic products have been interested by many businesses and visitors. Due to the attraction of the ceramic handicraft, more and more visitors flocking to Bau Truc Ceramic Village to sightsee; and more customers to buy ceramic products. According to Van Hoa (Culture) Newspaper, in early 2018, Eurowindow Nha Trang Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company came to ask for bringing visitors to learn the way of making ceramic at Bau Truc. The company also had researched production ability in the craft village to co-produce some decorative ceramic products for the 5-star Movenpick Resort Cam Ranh and Radisson Blu Resort Cam Ranh. After nearly a year and a half, in the middle of 2019, the whole products were completed and were highly appreciated.

A special feature of Bau Truc ceramic craft is the method of making handmade ceramic, highly artistic with meticulousness and sophistication in each carving stroke. In many other craft villages, potters often use the turntable to mold ceramic. However here, artisans use their own skillful hands to create excellent products. Besides, after the creation process with many different stages, ceramic products are decorated with many vivid patterns, dried, and then baked in open air. Because of this special way that Bau Truc ceramic craft has been interested by a lot of domestic and foreigners visitors.

Bau Truc Ceramic Village currently has about 400 households, over 80% of which continue to practice ceramic. Nowadays, the villagers of Bau Truc are proud of their products that are continuously available in 4-star and 5-star luxury hotels, villas, and resorts in many provinces and cities in the country. Bau Truc ceramic products are also loved by international visitors from Russia, America, Italy and Japan, etc.
The art of making ceramic of the Cham in Bau Truc has been certified and included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2017.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Director of Ninh Thuan Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: In the recent years, visitors to Ninh Thuan have increased rapidly. The department has also developed many tours to visit the craft villages, especially the Cham ceramic village of Bau Truc. Bau Truc Ceramic Village is a favorite destination for many visitors, and also becomes a local important tourism product in attracting visitors and developing long-term and sustainable tourism in Ninh Thuan Province.

Coming to Bau Truc Ceramic Village, visitors will be amazed at a lively museum with hundreds of different types of ceramic products, from products that are crafted in simple designs to sophisticated and skillful products on each line. All present an intense cultural value that has existed for more than 800 years. In the simple space of Bau Truc Ceramic Showroom in the village center, thousands of ceramic products crafted in different periods are on display. Works include vase of various designs, kettle, pots, jars... and especially artistic statues simulating Apsara dancers, and gods, which make an endless source of inspiration for visitors to explore charmingly. To remember the great merit of the craft ancestor, every year, on the 3rd day of 7th month of the Cham calendar (around in January), the villagers of Bau Truc organize ceremony of the death anniversary of Po Klong Chanh - the ceramic craft ancestor at the temple about 2km northwest of the village with many solemn rituals. |
