In recent years, a series of non-governmental projects via the World Wild Fund For Nature Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) have been carried out in Quang Nam to protect forests, conserve biodiversity, and create sustainable livelihoods for people.

Attracting large-scale projects
According to Mr. Van Ngoc Thinh - County Director of WWF-Vietnam, Quang Nam is one of the prior areas of biodiversity in Central Vietnam and belongs to 200 important global ecological zones.
Therefore, the cooperation in protecting biodiversity and maintaining forest coverage is extremely important.
Until now, there have been six non-governmental projects relating to biodiversity in Quang Nam, including: carbon storage and biodiversity conservation; biodiversity conservation; strengthening the supply chain, empowering communities, improving forest resilience, and sharing knowledge of biodiversity beyond borders; strengthening the role of communities and social organizations in conservation in the Central Truong Son area; plastic waste management in Vietnam; saving saola from the danger of extinction.
The total cost of these projects is estimated at about 95.8 billion VND.
As a result, various rare animal species have returned to the forest. The forest coverage has increased year by year.
Control in forest protection
Currently, Quang Nam has a natural forest area of about 449,558ha - the second largest in Vietnam.
It also rich in biodiversity with 1,129 species of higher plants, 50 species of large mammals, 270 species of birds, 22 species of bats, different endemic, rare and endangered mammal species such as douc langur, saola, giant muntjac.
Nature-based forest protection
WWF-Vietnam plans to deploy 55.6 billion VND-3 projects in Quang Nam in two periods of 2023 - 2024 and 2025 - 2045, focusing on forest conservation, improvement of local income, and connection of the value chain of non-timber forest products.
WWF Global Director Prasanna De Silva said, nature-based development will be a large-scale project, with a budget of more than 70 million USD along with the support and sponsorship from large corporations in the world.
Beside forest protection and improvement of the local people’s income, the nature-based projects create opportunities for local authorities to work with large and reputable corporations.
The primeval forests in Tay Giang district (Quang Nam province) are well protected via WWF-sponsored projects.
According to Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Ho Quang Buu, in recent years, Quang Nam's revenue from forest environmental services has always reached an average of more than 200 billion VND.
So, WWW-Vietnam’s nature-based forest protection projects in Quang Nam are in accordance with Quang Nam’s forestry development strategy.
