On June 5, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment in conjunction with the People's Committee of Quang Yen town organized a launching ceremony in response to the International Biodiversity Day (May 22), the World Environment Day 2024 (June 5), the World Oceans Day (June 8), and the Vietnam Seas and Islands Week (June 1-8).
Delegates and officers at the event joined hands to clean up the environment in the area of Ha Nam dike.
Addressing the ceremony, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Tran Nhu Long, highlighted that environmental protection plays a decisive role in sustainable development of Quang Ninh province. Therefore, he called on authorities and the people to deploy measures and practical actions to protect the environment in general and sea environment in particular.
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June to put a spotlight on environmental challenges of our time. This year, the World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience, calling on countries across the globe to join hands to restore lands, build drought resilience and combat desertification, helping slow down the crisis of climate change and improve livelihoods and food security for billions of people in the world.

World Oceans Day (taking place on 8th June every year) adopted by the United Nations demonstrates efforts and connects people around the world to conserve and sustainably develop seas and oceans. In order to support World Oceans Day, Vietnam Seas and Islands Week is held from 1st June to 8th June every year as an opportunity for Vietnam to affirm its potential and determination to sustainably develop marine economic sectors, while protecting environmental resources and national sovereignty at sea.
Associated with the theme of World Oceans Day 2024, implementing the Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy until 2030, with a vision to 2045, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has determined that the central theme of Vietnam Seas and Islands Week 2024 is "Sustainable management and use of marine space".
