The hidden beauty of Suoi Giang offers rich potentials for ecotourism, leisure and entertainment and cultural tourism. Tourists will be charmed by drifting clouds, pleasant climate, sweet taste of the Shan tea, in addition to the sounds of flutes, lip harps, love songs by local youths.
Being a moutainous province, Yen Bai is endowed with many splendid attractions, imposing mountains and tourist spots of cool air. In the southeast lie Thac Ba Lake – the Ha Long on land, the emerald land of Luc Yen and Khai Trung green plain. The northwest is famed with the valley of Muong Lo, hot springs in Bon and Hoc villages, and traditional dances. Especially, tourists will have chance to experience Mu Cang Chai with grandiose mountains and unique paddy terraced fields - the pride of the mountainous people. Nevertheless, it would be a mistake if one misses Suoi Giang which boasts cool air, cloudy landscape and tens of thousands of old Shan tea trees.
Suoi Giang is located in Van Chan District, 80km west of Yen Bai City. Lying at the altitude of 1,370m, the area enjoys cooler temperature over other regions. One can feel the cold at night, cloudy scenery at dawn, clear and blue windy sky at noon and golden sunlight covering the whole area in the afternoon.
Standing on the peak of Suoi Giang, tourists may enjoy the bird’s view over miraculous terraced fields in the valley of Muong Lo stretching on the mountain slopes.
Going farther, one would be amazed by the primitive forest of Tap Lang with diversity of fauna and flora, and romantic waterfalls.
Moreover, once coming to Suoi Giang, tourists will be surprised at the vast forest of Shan tea trees of hundreds of years old. The Shan tea enchants the tasters by unforgettable flavour long remained on tongues.
Academician K.M. Djemmukhalze of the former Soviet Union Academic Science Institue said: “I have come to some 120 countries throughout the world, but I have never seen such ancient and big Shan tea trees. Suoi Giang may be the cradle of tea”. These special trees have exceptional attractiveness to tourists and bring unlimited inspiration to many artists in the country.
Tourists can also explore traditional characteristics of culture and daily life of the ethnic minorities in the northwest by travelling to nearby Mong ethnic villages. Thanks to its beauty and unique features, Suoi Giang still receives dozens of thousands of domestic and international visitors per year, inspite of poor tourist investment.
Recognising those potentials, the People’s Committee of Yen Bai has planed Suoi Giang as an ecotourist site with the total area of around 60 hectares. The site comprises various functional items like hotels, guesthouses for families, sight-seeing tower, internal traffic system, square, water and electricity supply facilities…
