According to the magazine Travel+Leisure, Vietnam is a very affordable place to retire, especially for adventurous retirees who appreciate the country's beaches, scenery, food, history, and culture. Indeed, the overall cost of living is approximately 59% lower than in the US, with rents about 79% lower, depending on the location.
Travel+Leisure magazine said that applying for a visa in Vietnam is not as simple as in many other countries, but it is possible to apply for a long-term stay visa or a business visa.
High-quality health care is also very affordable, with public and private systems available. In line with this, it added that most expats carry international health insurance and take advantage of private hospitals.
Travel+Leisure's list of countries with the cheapest retirement costs in the world also includes Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Portugal, Panama, Montenegro and Colombia.
In Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Sai Gon, home to the country’s largest expat community, the cost of living stands at 70% lower compared to New York, with housing roughly 87% lower, it wrote.
In addition, many large cities in Vietnam such as Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City are considered attractive tourist destinations, with convenient transportation, affordable prices, and many experiences.
According to Kiplinger's rankings, Vietnam ranks second among the 10 cheapest countries to visit with affordable prices and low daily costs for accommodation and food, making this country a desirable destination for tourists with limited budgets.
